Weather analytics for energy risks in the insurance and reinsurance industry
Weather analytics is key to handling risks in renewable energy, where production often depends on unpredictable weather. For insurers and reinsurers, understanding these risks ensures better coverage against disruptions and financial losses.
Uncertainty flagging
We analyzed 40 wind farms with a total capacity of more than 1,4 GW. Using a threshold of 25% potential error on the forecast, we evaluated both the risk of over and under-predictions, and compared the analysis with realized production data.
Offshore farm wake study
We have simulated multiple offshore wind farm wake studies using our in-house mesoscale models. By embedding turbines within the models, we have gained a unique capability to simulate very large farms.
